Neutering

For males, neutering is the common term used to describe the surgical procedure known as orchiectomy. Requiring general anesthesia, it is a form of surgical castration in male dogs and cats, in which the male reproductive organs (testicles) are removed.

Veterinarians commonly recommend neutering as it has many benefits to the long-term health of your pet. Neutering your pet can help to eliminate/reduce unwanted behaviors such as some forms of aggression, roaming, humping, and marking. It also helps to reduce the chance of developing diseases related to the prostate (prostatic hyperplasia or prostatitis), hormone related diseases such as perianal adenomas, and testicular cancer. Generally, neutered dogs and cats are able to live a longer and healthier life.
